The Class-Action Lawsuit Against Netflix Over Throttling
In 2004 the class-action lawsuit "Frank Chavez v. Netflix, Inc." was filed in San Francisco Superior Court. It came about because Netflix subscribers who were getting an extremely high volume of DVDs from the company became disgruntled. Their disgruntlement arose when they observed that the stream of discs they were receiving was apparently being slowed down. They accused Netflix of engaging in a practice they called "throttling" and consulted attorneys.

Netflix Dumps HD DVD, Goes With Blu-ray
Netflix has previously offered movies on both HD DVD and Blu-ray discs, but has now announced it will be dropping HD DVD and phasing out its existing stock in that format. This follows announcements that four of the six major studios will not release new titles on HD DVD. However, Universal and Paramount continue to release new titles in that format. The format war between Blu-ray and HD DVD continues, but Netflix's decision is another indication that Blu-ray is gaining ground.
